This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.
• Oversee and provide support for approximately 30 SQL Server IaaS virtual machines hosted on Azure, encompassing both production and non-production workloads.
• Administer and maintain two high-availability SQL Server clusters.
• Manage Azure SQL PaaS logical servers, elastic pools, and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
• Conduct performance tuning, query optimization, index and statistics maintenance, capacity planning, cost optimization, backup, restore, disaster recovery testing, security configuration, access management, and compliance tasks.
• Design, uphold, and validate strategies for high availability and disaster recovery.
• Support replication for both production and non-production environments using Attunity Replicate (Qlik).
• Create and uphold monitoring and alerting systems across SQL platforms.
• Develop PowerShell scripts for monitoring to identify thresholds, performance, and availability issues, and initiate proactive alerts.
• Integrate critical alerts with PagerDuty and non-critical warnings via email.
• Engage in on-call rotations, incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation efforts.
• Utilize Terraform for deploying and managing Azure SQL resources, alert configurations, monitoring baselines, and data-platform infrastructure.
• Maintain Azure DevOps YAML pipelines for build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Implement repository governance through pull-request templates, pre-commit hooks, linting, validation, and documentation practices.
• Manage and maintain enterprise data-platform repositories and assets across Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python code, configurations, and deployment artifacts.
• Construct, uphold, and support modular data pipelines across various business domains.
• Develop and support Python-based transformations and business-rule logic executed as Databricks jobs.
• Maintain automated unit, component, and integration testing suites along with test datasets.
• Assist in data quality validation and reconciliation efforts.
• Keep technical documentation updated for onboarding, operational readiness, and audit purposes.
• Gain an understanding of application data flows and business logic to ensure production stability and data accuracy.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on data governance initiatives.
• Participate in database consolidation, redesign, data model discussions, and migration planning.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator specializing in Microsoft SQL Server.
• At least 5 years of experience in T-SQL development and performance optimization.
• Over 3 years of experience in database schema design, refactoring, and modernization.
• More than 2 years of experience with Azure cloud services.
• Proven track record in optimizing databases for high-transaction OLTP systems.
• Demonstrated ability in tuning underperforming databases and queries.
• Experience in code review processes and mentoring development teams.
• Eagerness to enhance expertise in modern data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration in both IaaS and PaaS environments.
• Practical experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Business Critical and General Purpose tiers, and SQL Server Failover Clustering and/or Always On technologies.
• Familiarity with Azure infrastructure and services.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and monitoring tasks.
• Monitoring and alerting experience using Foglight, Azure Monitor, and custom solutions.
• Preferred experience of 2+ years in data engineering or ETL/ELT development.
• Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code methodologies is preferred.
• Knowledge of medallion architecture or lakehouse patterns is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and Azure Data Factory is advantageous.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric in production settings is preferred.
• Background in migrating on-premises databases to cloud platforms is beneficial.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices for database deployments is preferred.
• Experience in regulated industries with compliance requirements is an advantage.
• Exposure to Event Hubs or Kafka is preferred.
• Familiarity with data governance tools and frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD using YAML pipelines for automated testing and deployment is preferred.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical field is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Certifications such as Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Databricks Data Engineer are highly desirable.
• Additional certifications like Azure Solutions Architect Expert, MCSE Data Management and Analytics, or ITIL Foundation are valuable.
