This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute reliable backup strategies to ensure that both full and transactional log backups are performed punctually.
• High-Severity Triage: Serve as the primary responder for Severity-1 and Severity-2 database-related emergencies.
• Performance & Index Tuning: Regularly analyze wait statistics, index fragmentation, and resource-heavy queries.
• Capacity & Storage Planning: Monitor database file growth patterns and project storage needs at least 90 days ahead.
• Schema & Data Change Management: Evaluate and approve SQL scripts submitted by development teams.
• Environment Provisioning: Create and sustain repeatable scripts and runbooks for setting up new environments or duplicating databases.
• Security & Compliance: Establish and uphold best practices for database security, including encryption both at rest and in transit, least-privilege access controls, and thorough auditing.
• Process Improvement: Document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). Identify chances to automate routine database tasks such as backups, integrity checks, and deployments.
• Over 5 years of experience in administering SQL Server (2016–2022) in 24×7 production settings, encompassing both on-premise and cloud-hosted environments.
• In-depth knowledge of backup/restore techniques, index maintenance, performance tuning, and HA/DR solutions such as Availability Groups, log shipping, or mirroring.
• Comfortable providing support for customer-managed on-premise servers, VPN/ExpressRoute-integrated cloud virtual machines, and internal lab setups.
• Proficient in T-SQL and scripting (PowerShell or Bash) for automation and enhancing operational efficiency.
• Experience handling large datasets, including table partitioning and archival methods for tables exceeding 100 million rows.
• Adept at diagnosing blocking, deadlocks, timeouts, and other database performance challenges in collaboration with development and support teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to overlap at least 4 hours with US Eastern Time.
• Nice to Have: Familiarity with healthcare/EHR systems and data privacy regulations (HIPAA, HITECH). Microsoft SQL Server certification.
