This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.
• Take the lead on a production MySQL migration, overseeing strategy and implementation in a dynamic, high-scale setting.
• Contribute to a mission-critical platform serving 100k users, where your choices have a direct effect on performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, DevOps, QA, and architecture teams to tackle complex, real-world migration challenges.
• Examine database schemas, queries, replication, and compatibility risks both prior to and during the migration process.
• Analyze database interaction patterns within Java microservices, focusing on JDBC, connection pooling, and transaction behaviors.
• Develop Cloud SQL migration strategies aimed at minimizing business disruptions.
• Enhance database performance by assessing slow queries, indexing, execution plans, locking, and storage behaviors.
• Verify backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure production readiness.
• Establish database monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and health check protocols.
• Reinforce database security measures, access controls, encryption, patching, and compliance practices.
• Streamline database operations through automation using scripting and infrastructure tools.
• Produce migration runbooks, playbooks, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• A minimum of 5 years of practical MySQL Database Administration experience within production environments.
• Demonstrated experience with significant MySQL version upgrades or large-scale database migrations.
• In-depth knowledge of MySQL internals, including indexing, query optimization, partitioning, replication, and transaction behavior.
• Strong SQL capabilities with the proficiency to diagnose complex performance issues.
• Direct experience managing Linux or other Unix-like operating systems, along with scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with managed cloud database services, such as Cloud SQL, Amazon RDS, or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with production database operations including backup/restore, high availability, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
• Ability to plan and implement database modifications with minimal downtime.
• Capacity to work autonomously while effectively collaborating across technical teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions.
