Principal Database Administrator – DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Estonia.

📋 Description

• Take charge of Database Reliability: Implement strategies for high availability and disaster recovery, ensuring that RPO and RTO targets are achieved for our core banking systems.

• Architect for Scalability: Develop and execute a roadmap for scalability, encompassing partitioning, sharding strategies, and capacity forecasting.

• Enhance Performance: Conduct in-depth query optimization, execution plan analysis, and proactively address bottlenecks.

• Infrastructure Design: Create and maintain scalable inference and connection pooling strategies (PgBouncer) along with robust backup and restore automation processes.

• Foster Observability: Construct the monitoring architecture (using Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics) and establish SLIs/SLOs to assess database health.

• Advocate for Security: Enforce banking-grade security measures, including credential management and compliance-oriented data handling.

• Collaborate with Engineering: Partner with product teams to ensure that database schema alterations and architectural choices accommodate a high-load environment.

• Lead by Example: Elevate the technical standards of the DBA function through mentorship, definition of standards, and practical implementation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in high-load, production settings (ideally within Fintech or mission-critical systems).

• Extensive PostgreSQL Knowledge: Advanced understanding of index design (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN), partitioning, and vacuum tuning.

• Expertise in HA/DR: Proven track record in designing streaming replication, clustering, and automated backup validation.

• Proficient in Cloud Technologies: Hands-on experience with cloud-managed PostgreSQL (particularly GCP) and Linux systems administration.

• Automation-Oriented: Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (using Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD processes (GitLab, ArgoCD).

• Strong SQL Proficiency: Mastery in complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.

• Monitoring Expertise: Experience in building monitoring and alerting systems for databases (Prometheus/Grafana).
