Senior Data Platform Engineer, Snowflake

📋 Description

• Take charge of the hands-on engineering for JD Power's Snowflake data platform.

• Convert platform architecture and governance strategies into a production-ready, automated, and observable Snowflake environment.

• Oversee Snowflake account, warehouse, and object architecture.

• Manage the Infrastructure-as-Code repository and CI/CD for modifications to Snowflake.

• Implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), security measures, and identity integration.

• Operate ingestion and integration patterns employing Snowpipe, Streams/Tasks, managed connectors, Kafka, and Fivetran/Airbyte.

• Monitor platform observability, costs, and performance; optimize clustering, search capabilities, materialized views, and queries.

• Deploy Snowflake objects, roles, and policies using Terraform.

• Manage database CI/CD processes with Schemachange, Liquibase, dbt, or similar tools.

• Integrate Snowflake with Identity Providers for SSO/SCIM and oversee service accounts and key rotations.

• Collaborate with InfoSec, Privacy, and Compliance teams on audit preparedness and control attestation.

• Establish and fulfill SLOs for platform reliability, data freshness, and cost management.

• Create dashboards and alerts, and lead incident response efforts for platform-related issues.

• Document architectural decisions, established patterns, and operational runbooks.

• Support Analytics Engineering, Product Engineering, and Data Science stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in data platforms, data engineering, or data infrastructure.

• More than 3 years of direct experience with Snowflake at a production scale.

• Proficiency in Snowflake RBAC design, warehouse sizing and cost governance, performance enhancement, and security features.

• Strong skills in SQL and query profile optimization.

• Experience with Python for tooling, automation, and pipeline development.

• Practical experience with Infrastructure-as-Code; Terraform is essential.

• Database CI/CD experience using Schemachange, Liquibase, dbt, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including networking, IAM, storage, and Snowflake integration.

• Experience in data ingestion using Snowpipe, Streams/Tasks, Kafka, and/or Fivetran/Airbyte.

• Capability to write decision records and runbooks and influence peers without direct authority.

• SnowPro Advanced certification is preferred.

• Hands-on experience with dbt and modern Analytics Engineering is preferred.

• Familiarity with Snowflake Horizon Catalog, Polaris, Collibra, or Alation is preferred.

• Experience with streaming and Change Data Capture (CDC) is preferred.

• Background in Iceberg/lakehouse architecture is preferred.

• Knowledge of data observability tools is preferred.

• Experience in the automotive, financial services, insurance, or regulated consumer-data sectors is preferred.

• Experience with AI/ML workloads on Snowflake is preferred.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the country where the position is offered.
