Senior Data Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the creation of proprietary models to evaluate SMEs and startups.

• Develop a robust data infrastructure for the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data across pipeline and portfolio companies.

• Create tools and APIs to enhance data capabilities within portfolio companies.

• Collaborate with leadership to ensure data products align with investment strategies.

• Assess pipeline and portfolio companies regarding data quality, systems, and technical capacity.

• Mentor and support portfolio founders in enhancing their data management systems.

• Oversee the technology stack, architecture, and data governance as part of Renew Capital’s innovation initiatives.

• Ensure the establishment of repeatable, transparent, and compliant models that facilitate scaling investments throughout Africa.

• Serve as a representative of Renew Capital externally, acting as a thought leader in data science and innovation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in data science, ML/AI, or fintech, with expertise in modeling, scoring, or analytics.

• Demonstrated capability to build and lead high-performing technology teams.

• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (CS, Statistics, Math, Engineering, Economics) is preferred.

• Proficient in Python, SQL, R, ML frameworks, and cloud data platforms.

• Proven experience in developing production-grade ML models (e.g., credit scoring, fraud detection, risk analysis).

• Familiarity with the fintech and SME landscapes in African or comparable markets.

• Excellent communicator with the ability to translate technical models into actionable business outcomes.
