Senior Data Engineer, Financial Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Acquire knowledge of applications to deliver suitable support and maintenance.

• Gather business requirements and ensure clarity for coding purposes.

• Engage in Scrum, Kanban, and stand-up meetings.

• Adhere to development standards while planning and executing coding tasks.

• Contribute insights for project planning and target timelines.

• Organize time and workload effectively to meet deadlines.

• Evaluate designs and code with colleagues prior to code promotion.

• Collaborate with the technical architect to develop and refine documentation.

• Uphold communication, transparency, traceability, and best practices.

• Work alongside the team lead and Assistant Vice President of IT Financial Systems, ensuring proper communication and escalation as necessary.

• Oversee production environment performance with specialists and implement enhancements, ranging from minor fixes to architectural adjustments.

• Assist in managing non-production environments.

• Ensure adherence to internal and change control procedures, with available evidence.

• Broaden technical expertise through both internal and external training opportunities.

• Support applications handled by IT Financial Systems and their interfaces.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 2–6+ years of experience as a Data Developer or Engineer.

• Proficient in SQL Server and associated tools, including SQL queries, SSIS, and SSRS.

• Familiar with version control systems such as Stash, Git, or Bitbucket.

• Basic understanding of data integrity, governance, architecture, extraction, manipulation, storage, and mining.

• Experience with job scheduling tools like SQL Server Agent or Autosys.

• Knowledge of DevOps concepts, CI/CD, and related tools.

• Capability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.

• Comprehension of financial concepts such as accounts payable and general ledger.

• Familiarity with basic SDLC and project management principles.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

• Strong analytical abilities.

• Effective time management and the ability to be proactive and self-directed.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Capacity to assess system functionality and data flow to troubleshoot production issues.

• Ability to research and analyze business, system, and process challenges.

• Flexibility to manage changing priorities.

• Understanding of vendor-based applications and APIs.

• Knowledge of performance monitoring, tuning, and enhancement.

• Ability to evaluate and prioritize feature requests based on effort and value.

• Competence in developing and executing unit tests based on tickets and acceptance criteria.

• Occasional travel to New Jersey may be required.

• Preferred but not mandatory: C#, VB, .NET, UiPath, Python, XML, JSON, Azure Technologies.

• Desired but not essential: knowledge of the insurance industry; experience with data warehouses or data marts; familiarity with additional DBMSs; BI tools; ETL tools; Agile, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies; knowledge of Jira and Confluence; experience working across multiple time zones; collaboration with employees and contractors.
