Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the Mux data warehouse, including the ingestion and transformation layers, overseeing architecture, administration, permissions, CI/CD, cost management, ingestion standards, and data quality.

• Develop and sustain data ingestion from production systems and business applications into the warehouse.

• Manage orchestration, deployments, environmental controls, and incident response.

• Deliver curated data to Salesforce, NetSuite, and HubSpot.

• Create semantic models and the data infrastructure supporting internal business question-answering agents.

• Assist in assessing the accuracy of the responses provided by the agents.

• Ensure data remains accurate, tested, straightforward, observable, and well-governed.

• Minimize technical debt and streamline the codebase.

• Utilize coding agents like Claude Code and Cursor for development, testing, and refactoring tasks.

• Recognize and implement agent-based automation for manual data tasks.

• Set standards for AI access, review, and human verification concerning production data interactions.

• Collaborate with Engineering on data production, modifications, and decommissioning.

• Coordinate with Finance, FinOps, Product, and GTM teams to prioritize models based on business inquiries.

• Engage in engineering-style cycle planning, including goal setting, commitments, and progress updates.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering, underpinned by a robust software engineering background.

• Experience in building and managing a complete data stack in a production environment, covering ingestion, warehousing, transformation, orchestration, and post-launch operations.

• Extensive hands-on experience with dbt, including model design, testing, macros, CI, and large project refactoring.

• Practical experience in administering a cloud data warehouse, with a preference for Snowflake, and consideration for BigQuery or Databricks.

• Proficiency in managing permissions, performance tuning, and cost control.

• Familiarity with data contracts and data observability tools such as Metaplane, Monte Carlo, or Elementary.

• Advanced SQL skills and strong data modeling capabilities, including dimensional modeling, grain, and slowly changing dimensions.

• Solid proficiency in Python for developing pipelines, automation, and tooling.

• Experience with managed ingestion tools like Fivetran or Airbyte.

• Comfortable working within AWS or GCP environments.

• Practical day-to-day use of AI coding tools with an understanding of their suitable applications and limitations.

• A foundational understanding of analysis and statistics.

• A strong commitment to data quality and governance.

• Bonus: experience with semantic layers, LLM agents over structured data, LLM evaluation, data science, additional data platforms, reverse ETL, finance data, developer tools/API-first/infrastructure companies, or experience in smaller companies with extensive ownership.
