Senior Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Oversee the refactoring and standardization of the transformation layer within GCP.

• Remove monolithic SQL queries and redundant logic.

• Establish and execute SQL engineering standards in BigQuery utilizing Dataform and/or dbt.

• Create packages and macros using JavaScript/TypeScript or Jinja/Python.

• Organize clear transformation layers, promote code reuse, and implement dimensional/denormalized modeling.

• Apply incremental loading patterns with idempotent reprocessing.

• Develop Data Quality frameworks and the Write-Audit-Publish pattern in BigQuery.

• Review processed data and activate Circuit Breakers to prevent the propagation of corrupted data.

• Organize transformation models and templates for standardized AI-generated code.

• Keep a documented repository of canonical Staging, Intermediate, and Marts examples.

• Collaborate with consumer teams to design optimized semantic layers and Data Marts.

• Utilize Authorized Views, Aggregate Tables, and Materialized Views enhanced by BI Engine.

• Guarantee high performance, minimal read costs, and consistent KPIs in Looker Studio.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert-level knowledge in advanced SQL in BigQuery, including Window Functions/QUALIFY, advanced UNNEST/ARRAY_AGG manipulation, and procedural scripting.

• Proficiency with Dataform, including JavaScript for dynamic SQL generation, and/or dbt (Jinja).

• Extensive experience in data modeling for Cloud Data Warehouses.

• Familiarity with Kimball methodology tailored for columnar databases.

• Experience with One Big Table and nested RECORD/REPEATED fields.

• Knowledge of Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Type 2).

• Understanding of Partition Pruning and Clustering on high-cardinality keys.

• Experience in incremental modeling to minimize bytes scanned and slot consumption.

• Expertise in integrating, cataloging, and optimizing data sources for BI tools.

• Familiarity with Looker Studio and BI Engine.

• Demonstrated experience in creating automated data tests, including schema tests, referential integrity tests, and volume and freshness anomaly detection.

• Strong verbal and visual communication skills for converting complex business rules into clear data models.

• Capability to perform rapid root cause analyses (RCA).

• Preferred: experience in migrating legacy pipelines to Dataform/dbt.

• Preferred: knowledge of LookML/Looker, Cube, or the dbt Semantic Layer.

• Preferred: experience in analyzing lineage graphs (DAGs).
