This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.
• Take charge of the discovery and access components of Agilent's scientific data platform.
• Establish the target vision and roadmap for scientific data discovery and access.
• Develop catalog and access behaviors, service boundaries, contracts, integration patterns, and the connections between them.
• Manage and version catalog records, subgraph boundaries, data service views, and event schemas.
• Identify authoritative systems in accordance with data governance regulations.
• Create controlled, provenance-aware access paths for AI agents.
• Evaluate integrations against contracts and participation criteria.
• Design modernization strategies for legacy systems, covering on-premises, hybrid, and cloud transitions.
• Establish performance targets for queries and indexing.
• Design pipelines to maintain catalog, search indexes, and access views, including backfill and recovery procedures.
• Collaborate closely with engineering on design, implementation plans, and delivered outcomes.
• Generate decision records and diagrams, clearly articulating trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders.
• Utilize .NET/C#, Angular, federated GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Helm, Windows installers, S3-compatible storage, and scientific data formats.
• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or architecture focused on distributed systems.
• Proficient in service boundaries, APIs, and event-driven integration.
• Experience in defining architecture prior to the establishment of finalized standards and governance.
• Proven experience in production system architecture related to data catalogs and metadata management, search and indexing, API or federated-query data access layers, or the data layer of scientific, laboratory, or regulated applications.
• Strong SQL skills and execution-plan expertise in PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
• Experience in building and managing data pipelines, including recovery and backfill processes.
• Ability to interpret production code in typed languages such as C#, Java, or TypeScript and to construct a proof of concept.
• Regular use of AI tools in architecture and data tasks, with the capability to articulate delegation and verification processes.
• Ability to collaborate across product, engineering, and business teams without direct authority.
• Preferred: experience in delivering data products utilized by applications.
• Preferred: familiarity with catalog, search, and data access beyond owned domains.
• Preferred: experience in laboratory informatics or regulated life sciences, including data integrity and audit trail considerations.
• Preferred: experience with architecture decision records, C4 or similar diagrams, and interface contracts.
• Preferred: knowledge of cloud integration patterns alongside on-premises deployments.
