This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +1 more state.
• Define and take ownership of the architecture for cloud-centric data solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and high availability.
• Facilitate discussions regarding data architecture and collaborate with engineering, product, machine learning, and cross-functional teams.
• Design, construct, and uphold production datastores that support high-speed, high-volume industrial IoT and telematics data.
• Convert business and product needs into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Promote best practices for data reliability, performance optimization, partitioning, indexing, and data quality.
• Assess customer and system data usage, identify inefficiencies, and suggest architectural enhancements.
• Guide and mentor engineers through design reviews, code evaluations, and technical advice.
• Articulate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership.
• Design cloud and data platforms that support generators, battery storage, and microgrid systems.
• Spearhead re-architecture initiatives for industrial IoT and telematics data systems.
• Shape platform strategy across product, machine learning, and engineering teams.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 8 years of experience across the data tier, from design to development and production support.
• At least 5 years of experience in a data architect role with a solid foundation in enterprise data architecture concepts.
• Demonstrated experience leading data architecture within production cloud environments, with a preference for Azure.
• Familiarity with high-speed, high-volume telematics or time-series data.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Programming or scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, and/or T-SQL.
• Experience in supporting or enabling AI/ML initiatives.
• Understanding of data governance, data privacy, and compliance, including GDPR.
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server or similar relational databases at the enterprise level.
• Practical experience with at least one NoSQL database.
• Strong background in data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse design patterns.
• Experience in designing and maintaining data pipelines.
• Profound knowledge of conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling.
• Strong understanding of performance tuning, indexing, and partitioning techniques.
• Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native data platforms.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Ability to perform frequent computer-based work, including periods of sitting, close vision, and focus adjustment.
• Capability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
