Senior Data and Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Define and direct the technical vision for a pivotal domain within the DGX Cloud Data Platform.

• Take ownership of architecture, interfaces, and expansion while planning for scalability, reliability, performance, security, compatibility, and cost.

• Spearhead the technical delivery of intricate, cross-team initiatives.

• Transform vague requirements into coherent architectures and interfaces, coordinate implementation efforts, write essential code, navigate technical challenges, and oversee secure production integrations.

• Architect, implement, and refine batch and streaming systems for fleet management, capacity, utilization, cost, scheduling, and operational telemetry.

• Develop shared platform capabilities, including libraries, workflow and orchestration abstractions, deployment tools, and implementation standards.

• Lead high-impact production investigations across pipelines, applications, query engines, distributed processing, storage, networks, and cloud services.

• Establish engineering standards for automated testing, data quality, reconciliation, lineage, service-level objectives, observability, secure identities, least-privilege access, release readiness, and auditable deployments.

• Define data models, semantics, ownership boundaries, and serving interfaces across teams.

• Provide tables, APIs, automation, dashboards, and internal applications for reliable DGX Cloud data access.

• Offer technical leadership through architecture and build reviews, hands-on mentorship, and resolution of complex trade-offs.

• Enhance engineering quality through reusable patterns, clear decision-making, and consistent follow-through.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of pertinent industry experience.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Extensive hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and operating production software, data platforms, databases, or distributed systems.

• Complete technical ownership of a multi-system platform domain or a complex cross-team engineering initiative.

• In-depth hands-on experience with distributed processing, analytical or relational databases, production ETL, change-data capture, streaming or event processing, or backend and cloud systems managing large data volumes.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proven proficiency in a backend or systems programming language.

• Significant experience utilizing data-processing and platform libraries or frameworks.

• Capability in crafting reusable abstractions, reviewing major changes, and debugging critical code paths.

• Proficient SQL and data modeling skills.

• Practical knowledge in query execution, incremental processing, schema evolution, consistency, analytical consumption, idempotency, replay, late-arriving data, partial failure, and cross-system correctness.

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose failures using logs, metrics, traces, query plans, profiles, and controlled experiments.

• Strong architectural judgment encompassing reliability, performance, cost, security, compatibility, and maintainability.

• Experience in guiding significant migrations or architectural changes across teams without disrupting production service.

• Familiarity with establishing automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, rollback, incident response, and secure deployment practices.

• Extensive experience with distributed data processing and lakehouse architectures.

• Background in operating distributed streaming or event-driven systems.

• Experience leading scaling, migration, or performance enhancement of relational, distributed, time-series, object-storage, or searchable-content data systems.

• Background in managing cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, workload schedulers, compute or GPU clusters, and fleet-scale telemetry.

• Experience defining and owning the production adoption of agentic systems or workflow automation.
