This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a generalist attorney in the media and entertainment sector, providing support for distribution, programming, production, licensing, advertising, marketing, operations, and corporate initiatives.
• Prepare, assess, negotiate, and offer guidance on commercial agreements, including those related to content licensing, production, services, vendors, nondisclosure, releases, and other contracts pertinent to media.
• Assist with original production and content rights activities, encompassing development, production, clearance, rights, releases, production services, location issues, risk management, acquisition, use, distribution, renewal, sublicensing, exclusivity, windowing, territory, term, and rights clearance matters.
• Aid in legal aspects related to distribution, such as carriage, affiliation, retransmission, platform, and digital distribution agreements.
• Oversee litigation and disputes, which includes managing outside counsel strategies, budgets, pleadings and correspondence, discovery, settlement evaluations, pre-litigation conflicts, demand letters, claims, subpoenas, investigations, and communication with stakeholders.
• Offer practical advice regarding negotiation strategies, risk mitigation, contract interpretation, compliance obligations, operational inquiries, and dispute prevention.
• Maintain templates, playbooks, approval workflows, and best practices.
• Support advancements in responsible AI and technology-enabled improvements within the legal department.
• Stay informed about pertinent legal and industry developments.
• Assist with special projects as assigned.
• Juris Doctor degree from a recognized law school.
• Active license to practice law in good standing with at least one state bar.
• Preference for bar admission in Ohio, New York, or Georgia.
• Generally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in a media and/or television setting.
• Experience with content distributed through both linear and non-linear channels, such as broadcast, cable, streaming, and digital platforms.
• Extensive experience practicing law within a law firm, corporate legal department, media organization, entertainment company, or a similar business environment.
• Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating media and entertainment-focused agreements.
• Strong practical legal judgment and risk assessment abilities.
• Robust business partnership and client service mindset.
• Proficient in contract drafting and negotiation.
• Competence in litigation management and dispute resolution.
• Fluency in media, production, licensing, and distribution matters.
• Excellent communication skills and executive presence.
• Capable of project management and prioritization.
• Familiarity with technology, including a willingness to engage with artificial intelligence and other tools that enhance efficient, high-quality legal services.
