Senior Commercial Marine Underwriter – Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and manage a profitable portfolio of marine business, including both new and renewal accounts.

• Utilize advanced underwriting authority and pricing strategies in accordance with carrier guidelines.

• Assess portfolio performance, loss trends, and market dynamics to enhance outcomes.

• Structure and negotiate complex risks in collaboration with brokers and partners.

• Create and implement a strategic growth plan for brokers/agencies.

• Foster and expand relationships with key producers and distribution partners.

• Identify, recruit, and onboard new high-value trading partners.

• Lead or contribute to the development of new products/programs.

• Keep track of market trends, competitor activities, and emerging risks.

• Suggest and implement strategic changes to promote growth.

• Mentor and develop junior underwriting talent.

• Act as a subject matter expert on complex marine risks.

• Advocate for underwriting excellence and best practices throughout the team.

• Oversee account servicing, endorsements, and manage the policy lifecycle.

• Review inspections and ensure proper underwriting actions are executed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or a relevant insurance designation (CPCU, ARM, etc. is preferred).

• More than 5 years of experience in commercial marine underwriting or a closely related field.

• Strong technical knowledge in Marine General Liability, Hull & P&I, Excess/Umbrella, and Marine Property / Inland Marine.

• Demonstrated success in building broker relationships and driving production.

• In-depth understanding of regional and/or national marine insurance markets.

• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

• Outstanding communication and executive-level relationship-building abilities.

• Self-motivated with a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset.
