Senior Cloud Security Engineer – AWS, GCP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute systems administration and maintenance tasks, including patch management, vulnerability scanning, compliance assessments, backups, and recovery for cloud workloads.

• Provide support for AWS and GCP environments, which encompass Windows and Linux virtual machines, container workloads, and various cloud services.

• Configure, update, and sustain security tools for endpoint protection, log collection, vulnerability assessment, and compliance monitoring.

• Diagnose issues across network, computing, application, and identity layers by examining logs, gathering data, and analyzing system behavior.

• Apply hardening and compliance measures using CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs, and FedRAMP requirements.

• Address vulnerabilities highlighted by Tenable, Trivy, OpenSCAP, Anchore, Twistlock, and other relevant tools.

• Offer quality assurance feedback during system deployments to guarantee that architecture aligns with compliance and operational standards.

• Collaborate with Security Analysts to ensure the seamless delivery of security services to clients.

• Develop and maintain network diagrams, dataflow diagrams, SOPs, and security tool configuration documentation.

• Assist with client communications, deliverables, and issue resolution.

• Provide support and mentorship to junior engineers as needed.

• Participate as either primary or backup engineer in a structured after-hours 24×7 on-call rotation.

• Address after-hours security alerts, infrastructure incidents, outages, and ConMon events.

• Conduct initial triage, containment, and stabilization using established runbooks.

• Investigate and respond to alerts.

• Escalate intricate issues to senior engineers, architects, or compliance teams.

• Document incidents, actions taken, and recommended improvements.

• Contribute to automation enhancements and runbook improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of six (6) years of experience in IT engineering and/or cybersecurity, with at least three (3) years in a dedicated cloud security engineering role or similar position.

• Hands-on experience with both AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Proficient in diagnosing and resolving issues across Linux and Windows systems, network infrastructure, and cloud services.

• General experience in systems administration and vulnerability management, including system patching and hardening, identity and access management (IAM), and related responsibilities.

• Experience in a DevSecOps environment, integrating security practices into cloud and infrastructure workflows.

• Familiarity with ITSM ticketing systems such as GitLab (preferred), Jira, ServiceNow, etc.

• Ability to work autonomously during business hours and on-call periods.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for customer interaction and incident documentation.

• Practical experience with one or more of the following tools: Splunk Enterprise; Tenable Security Center/Nessus; Invicti/Acunetix; Appgate; Okta; GitLab; Palo Alto Networks Firewalls; TrendMicro Deep Security; Trivy; Anchore; Terraform; CloudFormation; Ansible.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is desired.

• Experience supporting federal/government clients or consulting engagements, ensuring compliance and operational standards.

• Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST 800-53 compliance frameworks.

• Previous on-call, SRE, SOC, or incident response experience is required.

• Relevant AWS or Google Cloud Platform certifications are preferred.

• Security+ or other pertinent industry security certification is desired.

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code or automation tools.

• Experience with Kubernetes is highly desirable.

• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.
