Senior Backend Engineer, Trusted Agentic Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical framework that outlines how GitLab verifies software authored by an agent, and transform it into a blueprint ready for team implementation.

• Create prototype feedback systems that identify discrepancies between successful tests and functional software.

• Formulate strategies for GitLab's key technology stacks, beginning with Rust, Ruby, and Go.

• Design mid-loop feedback mechanisms that empower agents to autonomously adjust toward functional software.

• Develop systems that provide feedback to agents.

• Partner with engineering teams to promote adoption and assess trust, validation quality, and utilization.

• Establish technical direction, evaluate designs, and assist teammates in enhancing their technical judgment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, up-to-date, hands-on experience in developing real software utilizing artificial intelligence agents, preferably across multiple programming languages.

• Comprehensive understanding of the reasons why agent outputs can pass tests yet fail in a production environment.

• Strong perspective on the validation gap and practical strategies for bridging it, supported by prior experiences you've implemented or tested.

• Technical expertise to design systems instead of merely adjusting a single framework.

• Discernment to determine when a solution should be general or specific to a language.

• Capability to prototype for learning and delivery.

• Ability to influence engineers across the organization without formal authority through effective coding and sound rationale.

• Excellent written communication skills in a fully remote, asynchronous setting.
