Senior Backend Engineer – Solana Mobile

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and manage the backend architecture for core Solana Mobile services, including dApp Store APIs, wallet services backend, device registry, event tracking, and on-chain activity systems such as staking and associated infrastructure.

• Develop and maintain REST and WebSocket APIs that are utilized by Android, Flutter, and web clients, along with third-party developers integrating the Solana Mobile Stack.

• Take full ownership of your services in production: engage in on-call rotations, create runbooks, contribute to post-mortems, and ensure closure on action items.

• Identify and eliminate friction in your work and in team processes: automate where feasible, create small tools to alleviate repetitive tasks, and share your creations.

• Enhance CI/CD reliability and build infrastructure (GitHub Actions, WarpBuild) with a keen focus on pipeline speed, cost-effectiveness, and reproducibility.

• Perform comprehensive code reviews, engage in technical discussions, initiate RFC discussions for significant changes, and support the team's continuous improvement.

• Lead infrastructure decisions on AWS (ECS, RDS, Lambda, SQS, CloudFront) — from architecture design to cost-effective production operations.

• Manage the observability stack, including structured logging (Loki), metrics and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana Unified Alerting), distributed tracing, and incident response runbooks.

• Contribute to the backend architecture for device attestation and the Seed Vault integration layer, including on-chain verification workflows (Squads Protocol multisig, SPL token operations).

• Collaborate with mobile engineers (Android/Kotlin, Flutter/Dart) to design mobile-first API patterns that emphasize offline resilience, background synchronization, and efficient payloads for constrained networks.

• Work closely with Protocol Engineers to create Solana programs that design off-chain services which integrate seamlessly with on-chain logic.

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with a proven history of owning and managing production services.

• High level of ownership: you take problems from inception to resolution without waiting for guidance.

• Naturally proactive: you recognize issues early, suggest solutions, and act swiftly.

• Familiarity with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as integral to your workflow: leveraging them for increased efficiency and understanding when to rely on them.

• Strong expertise in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Rust — producing idiomatic, well-tested, production-ready code.

• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL: schema design, query optimization, indexing, and migration practices.

• Good working knowledge of Redis: caching strategies, pub/sub mechanisms, and TTL approaches.

• Practical AWS experience: ECS, RDS, SQS, S3, Lambda — comfortable with deploying and managing services in a cloud setting.

• Strong grasp of distributed systems principles: idempotency, eventual consistency, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation.

• Security-conscious: proficient in secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager / SSM), API authentication patterns (JWT, OAuth2), and maintaining OWASP standards.

• Comfortable working with Docker and containerized deployments.
