This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Design, construct, and manage production backend services utilizing Rust and other robust backend technologies.
• Take responsibility for backend components from initial design to deployment, observability, incident analysis, and ongoing upkeep.
• Gradually enhance existing systems to minimize technical debt while ensuring reliability and business continuity.
• Create clean, maintainable, production-quality code with a strong focus on correctness, testability, performance, and operational behavior.
• Troubleshoot intricate production and pre-production challenges across services, data flows, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines.
• Establish practical service boundaries, API contracts, data models, and integration patterns that facilitate long-term maintainability.
• Enhance reliability, observability, monitoring, alerting, and deployment workflows for backend systems.
• Leverage AI-assisted and agentic coding tools to expedite exploration, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while remaining accountable for final quality.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to provide complete and dependable product functionalities.
• Assess architectural alternatives and clearly communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, documentation efforts, and engineering practices that elevate team quality.
• Identify risks, simplify complex technical challenges, and make practical decisions in uncertain situations.
• Production experience with Rust is essential, including shipping, operating, debugging, and maintaining Rust services or systems in a real-world production setting.
• Strong background in backend engineering, including the development of APIs, services, distributed systems, data-rich systems, or platform capabilities.
• Solid architectural and systems design judgment, with the ability to evaluate service boundaries, reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Exceptional debugging, problem decomposition, and root-cause analysis abilities.
• Experience in evolving, refactoring, or modernizing existing systems without unnecessary rewrites.
• Capability to produce clean, maintainable, production-quality code and maintain high standards for testing, review, and documentation.
• Operational awareness in production settings, encompassing observability, incident response, deployment safety, performance, and reliability concerns.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or equivalent platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD, deployment automation, and operational tools.
• Strong sense of ownership, autonomy, curiosity, and practical decision-making in ambiguous situations.
• Ability to articulate technical decisions clearly, including the reasoning, trade-offs, risks, and anticipated outcomes.
