Senior Backend Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable REST APIs and backend services that are customer-facing, utilizing Python.

• Take ownership of the core product architecture from start to finish, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and rigorous security standards.

• Create high-performance data ingestion, web scraping, and parsing layers to handle real-time data processing.

• Architect workflows for distributed systems, incorporating asynchronous processing, queues, pub/sub mechanisms, and event-driven architectures.

• Manage and optimize relational database models under high load conditions.

• Collaborate within an agile, product-oriented engineering environment.

• Frequently deploy code and promote technical best practices.

• Partner with a UK-based fintech startup to shape, design, and build compliance and business verification platforms from the ground up.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Demonstrated success in owning systems end-to-end in a production environment.

• More than 3 years of strong hands-on experience with Python, or a comparable backend language, with a readiness to primarily work in Python.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, including asynchronous processing, message queues, pub/sub, idempotency, retries, and eventual consistency.

• Experience in designing and versioning clean, developer-friendly RESTful APIs.

• Advanced expertise in relational database modeling and query optimization.

• Proficient in PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Comfortable working in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines.
