Remotery

Senior Backend Engineer, Exchange Systems

Posted Jul 28

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the CLOB engine's critical path. Profile matching and orderbook hot paths, map settlement-sensitive state transitions, and enhance latency, throughput, and async engine flow supported by benchmarks and production-grade evidence.

• Minimize lock contention while maintaining correctness. Troubleshoot concurrency issues, design safer queueing and backpressure for orderbooks, and enhance the system's capacity to manage significantly more markets and order flow with reduced tail latency.

• Develop for observability and safety. Instrument enhancements with pprof, metrics, logs, and traces. Establish rollback guarantees and narrower critical paths that facilitate the detection, diagnosis, and resolution of production incidents.

• Analyze settlement risk. Comprehend how on-chain transaction effects ripple into off-chain exchange state, and create systems that accurately handle crossed books, ghost fills, stale orders, cancel inconsistencies, and settlement edge cases.

• Optimize the runtime. Decrease GC pressure, improve CPU and memory allocation behavior, and elevate Go runtime performance to satisfy the demands of a high-throughput exchange at scale.

• Troubleshoot production incidents. Manage latency, correctness, and settlement-state incidents end-to-end, and ensure follow-through that leaves the system demonstrably improved after each incident.

⛳️ Requirements

• Senior+ backend or systems engineer with production ownership experience of an exchange system — such as a perpetual DEX, crypto exchange, or any high-throughput trading backend featuring on-chain settlement.

• Practical experience with matching engines, order routing, or market data infrastructure where tail latency, correctness, and rollback safety were significant constraints.

• Profound Go expertise — you've tuned GC pressure, optimized hot paths, and have a solid understanding of runtime internals relevant to a high-throughput exchange context.

• Strong concurrency skills with a proven track record: lock contention, race conditions, async correctness, and backpressure under load.

• Profiling experience that you've actively utilized in production — pprof, flamegraphs, and metrics to identify and resolve latency issues, rather than merely describing them.

• Knowledge of the EVM/blockchain transaction lifecycle: you understand how confirmations, reorgs, and on-chain states affect off-chain exchange correctness.

• Strong computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, and systems-level thinking.

• (Plus) Experience with Rust.

• (Plus) Familiarity with Redis, PostgreSQL, gRPC, and Protobuf.

• (Plus) Experience with Kubernetes and AWS production operations.

🏝️ Benefits

• Competitive salary & equity.

• Unlimited PTO.

• Comprehensive Health, Vision, & Dental coverage.

• 401k match.

• Hardware setup: new MacBook Pro, large display, & accessories.
