Senior Backend Engineer – Databases

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee projects from initial concept to final implementation.

• Design, develop, and manage essential components of a distributed database.

• Assume the role of product owner.

• Promote operational excellence.

• Collaborate with teams across Grafana.

• Assist colleagues through design discussions, code reviews, and collaborative programming in a fully remote environment.

• Take part in on-call duties (EMEA rotation) for the services you develop.

• Engage in open-source contributions.

• Strong background in a systems programming language.

• Experience with distributed systems in a production setting.

• Effective communication skills.

• Bonus Points For:

• Experience with profiling and performance engineering tools such as flamegraphs, pprof, perf, or similar.

• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or large-scale observability systems.

• Experience managing multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure on Kubernetes at scale.

• Background in building for AI/LLM consumers: structured APIs, metadata and discovery endpoints, and deterministic outputs.

• Contributions or maintainership in open-source projects, and the ability to engage with a community in an open manner.

• Past experience as an on-call user of Grafana, Prometheus, Pyroscope, or similar tools in a previous role or personal projects.

• Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
