Senior Backend Engineer – Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Develop, construct, and sustain resilient backend service layers.

• Produce clean, testable, high-performance Java and/or Kotlin code utilizing Spring Boot.

• Create and implement scalable production APIs.

• Refactor and enhance services to boost reliability and maintainability.

• Develop reusable components and patterns.

• Design and optimize PostgreSQL relational schemas.

• Write and optimize efficient SQL queries for extensive data volumes.

• Assess database access patterns under load conditions.

• Detect and address performance bottlenecks.

• Collaborate within a cross-functional Agile or Scrum team.

• Engage in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions.

• Partner with Frontend and Product teams.

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.

• Enhance engineering processes and practices.

• Mentor engineers through code evaluations and technical discussions.

• Foster a culture of learning and constructive feedback.

• Share context proactively to prevent knowledge silos.

• Utilize AI-assisted tools in daily engineering practices while reviewing, validating, and owning generated outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building production backend systems.

• Experience in designing and managing distributed-data systems at scale.

• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies.

• Strong experience with Git and GitHub workflows.

• High proficiency in Spring Boot with Java and/or Kotlin.

• Extensive experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining production APIs.

• Knowledge of microservice architectures.

• Excellent problem decomposition and debugging abilities.

• Solid grounding in computer science principles and engineering judgment.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to consistently align with U.S. working hours.

• Comfort with using AI-assisted development tools regularly and validating their outputs.
