Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend systems that are secure, scalable, and reliable.

• Offer technical guidance across various applications and services.

• Lead discussions on architecture and design while documenting crucial technical decisions.

• Convert business and product requirements into actionable technical plans.

• Decompose initiatives, coordinate technical tasks, and manage dependencies and obstacles.

• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and other engineering teams to ensure timely delivery.

• Design and uphold APIs, database schemas, integrations, and data contracts.

• Enhance system performance, security, observability, and maintainability.

• Review code and technical designs to uphold engineering standards.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues and lead the technical response to incidents.

• Create and maintain automated tests, technical documentation, and CI/CD workflows.

• Offer technical mentorship and guidance to fellow engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Over 6 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.

• Proven ability to provide technical direction while remaining actively involved.

• Experience leading intricate initiatives across multiple systems or services.

• Proficient in Python, Go, or similar backend programming languages.

• Skilled in designing RESTful APIs using frameworks like FastAPI or Gin.

• Familiarity with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.

• Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, JSON, XML, and related web technologies.

• Experience in supporting production systems and managing incident responses.

• Knowledge of automated testing, Continuous Integration, Git, and contemporary development workflows.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities.

• Experience working within a remote, distributed team environment.
