Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Take complete ownership of backend functionalities, from refining requirements in collaboration with Product to delivering reliable, production-ready solutions.

• Actively challenge and enhance product and technical decisions.

• Advance the core system, APIs, and data infrastructure.

• Enhance performance, scalability, and reliability under high-demand conditions.

• Balance rapid product increments with a sustainable technical architecture.

• Contribute to the development of APIs and infrastructure for contemporary AI/ML pipelines in drug discovery.

• Adapt and refine APIs for AI/ML-driven applications.

• Operate on a high-load platform managing petabytes of biological data.

• Influence product architecture and long-term technical strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, primarily focused on backend development.

• Profound understanding of computer science fundamentals (OOP, algorithms, data structures).

• Extensive knowledge of data storage solutions, including RDBMS, columnar databases, search engines, and various NoSQL technologies.

• Demonstrated experience in agentic engineering.

• Strong expertise in Java and/or Kotlin.

• Experience with system-level refactoring.

• Significant experience with the Spring framework and its ecosystem.

• Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks effectively.

• Capacity to learn swiftly in complex domains.

• Interest in life sciences, data science, and ML/AI applications.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

• Proficient in English.

• Knowledge of biology and genetics is a plus.

• Experience with profiling, tracing, and performance tools is advantageous.

• Familiarity with Python is a plus.
