Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance Langfuse’s ingestion pipeline focusing on throughput, latency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Create ClickHouse schemas and refine merge strategies, batch inserts, and analytical queries.

• Develop backend abstractions and infrastructure-heavy functionalities including LLM-as-a-Judge, scalable alerting, client-code execution, and batch dataset operations.

• Manage Langfuse Cloud across various production environments.

• Facilitate deployments that range from Docker Compose to enterprise-level Helm charts.

• Conduct load testing on production data to ensure schema validation, migration accuracy, and query performance enhancements.

• Prototype table designs, implement them in parallel on live traffic, and assess performance prior to finalization.

• Strategize infrastructure for 10x scalability while adapting to agent observability and real-time evaluation requirements.

• Work collaboratively with the ClickHouse database engineering team and users to address scaling challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong backend engineering expertise with a focus on database internals, query optimization, and distributed systems.

• Experience with analytical databases, data pipelines, or high-throughput event processing.

• Familiarity with ClickHouse is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Proficient in reading and writing TypeScript and SQL.

• Interest in open-source software development.

• Enjoy engaging with users about their scaling challenges.

• Ability to self-organize and develop strong viewpoints regarding what to build and how to implement it.

• Capability to excel in a small, accountable team environment.

• A degree in Computer Science or a quantitative field is preferred.

• Bonus: experience with ClickHouse, other OLAP databases, or observability infrastructure.
