This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
β’ Identify areas of friction within GitLab's software development lifecycle and devise effective solutions to address them.
β’ Design and develop robust AI-driven systems that incorporate workflows, tool utilization, safety protocols, and error correction mechanisms.
β’ Create and sustain evaluation tools that assess agent accuracy, adherence to constraints, and overall costs.
β’ Engage with GitLab's codebase in all instances where software development friction arises.
β’ Utilize distributed systems expertise to detect failures related to concurrency, scalability, and various deployment scenarios.
β’ Collaborate with the team based in India by sharing roadmaps, insights, and reusable agent tools.
β’ Take ownership of a greenfield problem space, transforming effective internal solutions into customer-facing capabilities within GitLab.
β’ Practical experience in developing agentic or large language model-based systems featuring multi-step orchestration, tool usage, guardrails, and recovery patterns.
β’ Proven ability to ensure the reliability of AI-powered systems in production environments.
β’ Demonstrated history of working independently within unfamiliar codebases and successfully driving solutions to completion.
β’ In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, including coordination, consistency, idempotency, rate limiting, failure scenarios, and performance degradation under load.
β’ Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python, prioritized in that order by the team.
β’ Capability to read and modify code in the other specified programming languages.
β’ Valuable experience in deploying autonomous agents that accomplish real tasks from start to finish.
β’ Relevant experience in enhancing build systems, release processes, review workflows, or other areas of the software development lifecycle.
β’ Experience working with globally distributed teams, managing large language model workload costs, or navigating production constraints across on-premises, air-gapped, single-tenant, and software-as-a-service deployments.
