Senior Back-End Engineer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in China.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and document APIs that are fast, secure, and user-friendly, catering to both front-end and back-end applications.

• Create effective integrations with other applications and third-party software.

• Take ownership of the entire implementation process from design through to rollout.

• Utilize AI coding tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot) as integral components of your development workflow to expedite implementation.

• Serve as the quality gate for AI-assisted development by reviewing, validating, and refactoring generated code to ensure it complies with architecture, security, and maintainability standards.

• Design and orchestrate lightweight automation and agent workflows to remove repetitive engineering tasks, such as test generation, data migrations, boilerplate code, and monitoring scripts.

• Foster the squad's adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and share insights throughout the Back-End Chapter.

• Participate in requirements review and collaborate closely with the Product Manager to design and plan new features.

• Engage in the Back-End Engineering Chapter and contribute to overarching architecture decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in a Software Development role.

• Strong architectural judgment and ownership of code quality — the capability to design effective systems, not merely write good code.

• Proficient in Java and Spring Boot.

• Proven, hands-on experience using AI coding assistants in a production engineering context — demonstrating a practiced workflow rather than just familiarity.

• Ability to critically assess AI-generated code for accuracy, security, and maintainability.

• Experience in designing and implementing microservices.

• Knowledge of API design using REST, gRPC, GraphQL, and API documentation with OpenAPI/Swagger.

• Familiarity with various data storage, streaming, and caching solutions (including SQL and NoSQL databases, Redis, MQ, Kafka, and Elasticsearch).

• Capability to draft and document technical solutions prior to implementation.

• Effective communication skills in a remote setting — clear written communication and reliable asynchronous collaboration.
