Senior Azure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Lead the design and execution of enterprise-level Azure cloud architectures that prioritize security, scalability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.

• Define and oversee Azure landing zones, subscription strategies, resource organization, and enterprise cloud standards.

• Architect solutions for high availability and disaster recovery that align with business continuity goals and recovery requirements.

• Develop multi-region, hybrid cloud, and cloud-native architectures that support mission-critical workloads.

• Act as the technical escalation point for intricate cloud infrastructure and platform challenges.

• Define and spearhead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives utilizing Terraform, Bicep, and Azure-native automation tools.

• Create self-service cloud capabilities for application and engineering teams.

• Promote platform standardization through reusable modules, templates, and automation frameworks.

• Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, configuration management, and operational excellence.

• Advocate for GitOps and Platform Engineering principles throughout the organization.

• Collaborate with Security teams to create secure-by-design cloud architectures.

• Define Azure governance frameworks, including policies, management groups, resource controls, tagging standards, and compliance measures.

• Architect and implement enterprise-level security capabilities.

• Conduct architecture reviews and threat modeling sessions.

• Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Application Development, DevOps, Enterprise Architecture, and Business Technology teams to facilitate cloud adoption and enable essential business services.

• Engage in major incident escalation support and offer technical leadership during critical production events.

• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of experience, or a High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of experience in cloud engineering.

• 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience (preferred).

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in infrastructure, cloud engineering, or platform engineering (preferred).

• More than 7 years of hands-on experience in Azure engineering and architecture (preferred).

• Proven track record in leading enterprise cloud transformation initiatives.

• Demonstrated success in designing and operating large-scale cloud platforms that support critical business applications.

• In-depth knowledge of cloud architecture frameworks, governance, security, and operational excellence.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership within organizations.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to executive leadership.

• Expert-level experience with Azure Virtual Networks, Virtual Machines, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Azure App Services, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Azure Front Door, Azure Application Gateway, Azure Load Balancer, Azure VMware Solution, and Azure Virtual Desktop.

• Familiarity with Terraform, Bicep, Azure-native automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, configuration management, GitOps, and Platform Engineering principles.

• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Sentinel, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and Conditional Access.

• Preferred certifications include: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert; Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert; Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert; Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate; Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA); Terraform Associate Certification.

• Experience with multiple cloud platforms is a significant advantage.
