This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Champion the preservation of endangered species through the use of administrative and legal resources.
• Recognize and implement strategies to safeguard endangered species from threats such as habitat loss, pollution, and exploitation via litigation and other advocacy efforts.
• Identify, create, and litigate cases and administrative actions to advance campaign objectives.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to new program attorneys.
• Acquire in-depth knowledge regarding the status of endangered species nationwide.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with organizations, coalitions, government representatives, and scientists.
• Leverage litigation and media initiatives to emphasize the dangers faced by vulnerable wildlife.
• Undertake additional project work beyond the program as required to adapt to evolving organizational priorities.
• Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
• Juris Doctor degree and admission to a relevant state bar.
• Minimum of eight years of experience as an environmental attorney.
• Proven experience in litigation under the Endangered Species Act.
• Understanding of the status, biology, and threats facing endangered species.
• Proven record of leading litigation projects and collaborating effectively with colleagues.
• Exceptional writing, communication, research, and oral advocacy abilities.
• Strong commitment to work, time management, and organizational skills.
• Proactive mindset to identify opportunities, resolve issues, and take the initiative to advance projects.
• Demonstrated capability in developing complex cases and managing a comprehensive docket.
• High level of scientific literacy.
• A clear dedication to environmental protection.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.
• Competence in and commitment to the principles of justice, equity, and inclusion.
• Willingness to work 40+ hours per week.
