This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Gather monthly and quarterly investment metrics, such as net investment income, realized gains and losses, investment yields, and asset class investment balances.
• Assist in the accounting close process, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for both GAAP and STAT accounting practices.
• Conduct analytical reviews of investment income, yields, fair value fluctuations, and realized/unrealized gains and losses.
• Aid in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory and GAAP investment disclosures and accompanying footnotes.
• Support the implementation and onboarding of new investment portfolios related to block acquisitions.
• Assist with regulatory filings and respond to ad hoc requests in accordance with Bermuda Monetary Authority requirements.
• Execute internal control procedures pertaining to fixed income, equities, commercial mortgage loans, private equity, hedge funds, and real estate.
• Provide investment data necessary for Economic Balance Sheet calculations and reporting for Bermuda.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy within the investment accounting platform.
• Monitor, investigate, and resolve issues related to investment suspense account balances.
• Ensure compliance with SOX and the internal control framework, including support for documentation and walkthroughs.
• Identify control weaknesses and suggest improvements.
• Perform variance analysis and investigative procedures on investment balances and income trends.
• Collaborate with internal and external audit teams, providing requested information and control evidence.
• Lead operations related to private equity, which includes extracting financial data from fund capital account statements, completing system upload templates, and executing related controls.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the investment close cycle.
• Engage in system enhancements, user acceptance testing (UAT), and the implementation of automation.
• Create and update desktop procedures and process documentation.
• Utilize AI-enabled tools and advanced analytics to enhance securities accounting efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
• Promote accountability, quality, and continuous improvement aligned with Fortitude Re’s core values.
• Report directly to the VP of Private Markets Accounting.
• Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification is preferred.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in the reinsurance sector or financial services industry.
• Experience in managing large data sets, with a solid background in general ledger and/or analytical tool systems.
• Comprehensive understanding of GAAP and STAT investment accounting principles.
• Knowledge of the fair value hierarchy, effective yield methodology, and accounting for alternative investments.
• Familiarity with reinsurance structures and their investment implications is preferred.
• Experience with PowerQuery, Alteryx, Tableau, or similar tools is desired.
• Experience using the Clearwater investment accounting platform is preferred.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
• Proven capability to manage multiple deliverables while meeting deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly strong in Microsoft Excel.
