This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Act as a senior technical expert for SMA, providing assistance to customers with technical inquiries through telephone, email, and in-person meetings.
• Evaluate customer and utility interconnection prerequisites and aid in selecting the suitable SMA products and services; support customers during the project design phase and offer assistance to key and EPC clients.
• Function as a bridge between the U.S. sales division and the technical team at SMA headquarters located in Germany.
• Develop and present both internal and external technical training resources and presentations.
• Create sales materials for the sales team to utilize during client meetings and new business interactions.
• Perform competitor analysis and supply technical arguments to effectively compete against evaluated products and solutions.
• Attend industry conferences and trade shows as required.
• Collaborate with product management, engineering, and service teams to ensure consistency on technical requirements.
• Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed or assigned.
• A bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent relevant experience is mandatory. A master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is highly advantageous.
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in renewable energy engineering is expected. Experience with PV or storage systems and solutions is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of power electronics, particularly inverters and transformers, is preferred.
• Comprehensive understanding of power systems design is favored.
• Strong familiarity with the U.S. energy sector, including relevant norms, standards, and regulations, is highly desired.
• Knowledge of the energy sector in Mexico and/or Central America is a bonus.
• Awareness of solar electric (PV) installation and system design is preferred.
• Familiarity with PVSyst or similar PV system modeling tools is advantageous.
• Understanding of battery systems and solutions is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions and perform effectively in a dynamic environment managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Openness to periodic travel both domestically and internationally, including to Canada, Latin America, and SMA headquarters in Kassel, Germany.
• Proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills, is required.
• Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is essential.
• Note: Candidates whose degrees were completed more than three years ago are preferred for this role, as we seek individuals with considerable hands-on industry experience beyond their academic background.
