Senior Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and create scalable dimensional models utilizing dbt and BigQuery.

• Convert unclear business inquiries into dimensions, facts, and grain decisions.

• Maintain a balance between normalization, performance, and usability while documenting design choices.

• Minimize technical debt in the dbt project through model layering, naming conventions, testing standards, macro reuse, and incremental strategies.

• Establish model correctness and execute data quality monitoring and checks.

• Enhance alerting and triage processes to proactively identify data issues.

• Lead investigations into root causes of discrepancies in pipeline data.

• Collaborate with Data Engineering and product engineering teams on upstream contracts and quality of instrumentation.

• Assist in defining technical aspects of core business metrics and promote stakeholder alignment.

• Work alongside Data Analysts and BI teams to facilitate self-service analysis.

• Transform business requirements into technical specifications and prioritize tasks.

• Contribute through code and design reviews, as well as documentation.

• Act as a reliable builder, architect, and consultant for analytics data.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or similar roles.

• Profound expertise in data modeling, including dimensional models, grain, SCD types, and trade-offs in fact table design.

• Experience managing conforming dimensions, many-to-many relationships, late-arriving and restated data, and evolving source systems.

• Proven experience incorporating testing and monitoring within data pipelines.

• Familiarity with establishing SLAs or expectations with data owners and managing on-call/triage processes.

• Hands-on experience with production dbt, including model materialization strategies, testing, and macros.

• At least 2 years of experience with BI tools, preferably Looker.

• Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder influence capabilities.

• Strong ability to decompose problems and align requests with a modeling roadmap and architecture.

• Experience in finance or financial services data is a plus.

• Familiarity with BigQuery, dbt Cloud, Looker, Amplitude, or DeepNote is advantageous.

• Experience with data governance, lineage, or catalog tools is a plus.

• Knowledge of Agile processes and sprint cycles is a plus.

• Experience in mobile app or product analytics is a plus.
