• Establish the reconciliation foundation. Design and execute the data infrastructure that reconciles transactions across internal systems (such as operations and ledger) and external partners (ACH networks, banking systems, payment processors), ensuring that every dollar in equals every dollar out.
• Lead the development of anomaly detection and rules. Create and maintain a library of anomaly detection rules that address timing differences, partial matches, unexpected delays, and genuine errors, evolving them over time using machine learning-based signals as data matures.
• Implement AI-driven matching processes. Utilize probabilistic and fuzzy matching techniques to automatically resolve ambiguous or nearly matching transactions, thereby decreasing manual review queues and enhancing straight-through processing rates.
• Identify and manage unmatched records. Develop real-time and batch pipelines that highlight unmatched, delayed, or anomalous transactions to the appropriate stakeholders, providing sufficient context for prompt resolution.
• Collaborate across functions as the technical lead. Act as the primary data partner for Engineering (system integration and pipeline reliability), Finance/Accounting (period-end closing and audit support), and Recon Operations (workflow tools and exception handling).
• Establish data quality standards. Create validation frameworks that differentiate expected timing lags from true discrepancies and document data contracts between upstream systems.
• Promote automation and process enhancement. Identify and remove manual reconciliation tasks through scalable pipelines, alerting systems, and self-service tools for operations teams.
• Foster team development. Share best practices in reconciliation and data quality, mentor analysts, and contribute to establishing this function as a core capability within the Analytics organization.
• Over 5 years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or financial data roles, preferably with direct involvement in reconciliation, settlements, or financial operations.
• Advanced SQL skills and strong proficiency in Python (pandas, PySpark, or similar); experience with DBT is a plus.
• Practical experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks, including pipeline development, scheduling, and data modeling.
• Knowledge of ACH transaction cycles, payment systems, or financial settlement processes, with an understanding of the reasons behind timing differences and how to model them.
• Experience developing anomaly detection logic, whether rule-based, statistical, or driven by machine learning.
• Familiarity with probabilistic and fuzzy matching techniques for entity resolution or transaction matching.
• Excellent cross-functional communication abilities — capable of translating a data quality issue into clear terms for a Finance partner and a technical specification for an Engineer.
• Practical knowledge of AI and machine learning, including supervised and unsupervised methods relevant to reconciliation, such as anomaly detection (isolation forest, autoencoders), clustering for transaction grouping, and classification models for match/no-match decisions.
• Experience with large language models (LLMs) or AI-assisted tools (e.g., prompt engineering, LLM-based data extraction, or AI-enhanced workflow automation) to expedite analysis and minimize manual reviews.
• Background in fintech or financial services is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in a field that necessitates analytical or structured thinking (e.g., STEM, Economics, Finance); a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Opportunity to confront challenging problems, learn and grow alongside top talent, and assist millions in achieving their personal financial aspirations.
• Flexible hours and a virtual-first work culture, including a home office stipend.
• Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance plans.
• Generous paid parental and caregiver leave.
• 401(k) savings plan with matching contributions.
• Access to financial advisors and financial wellness resources.
• Flexible PTO and generous company holidays, including Juneteenth and Winter Break.
• In-person events for all employees once or twice a year, along with virtual events throughout the year to connect with team members and leadership.
