Senior AI & ML Engineer – AML Search Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• Lead the modeling and experimentation for SEON's fuzzy matching and AML screening quality.

• Transform ambiguous challenges into clearly defined strategies and guide them from experimentation to release and operational phases.

• Create evaluation datasets and metrics utilizing both offline and online signals.

• Develop scoring and machine-learning methodologies for real-time decision-making, ensuring a balance between match quality, performance, cost, and operational overhead.

• Take ownership of the production quality for models and configurations, which includes monitoring for data and concept drift, participating in on-call duties, and following up on incidents.

• Examine customer-reported matching concerns in collaboration with Product and Customer Success teams.

• Work together with Product, QA, Architects, DevOps, and Customer Success teams.

• Document experiment findings for future reference.

• Implement AI tools and techniques wherever they can deliver significant value.

• Mentor colleagues and enhance the data science practices across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in data science or machine learning, successfully delivering models into production.

• Proficient in Python programming.

• Strong expertise in statistical analysis and experiment design, including both offline and online assessment of search or matching quality.

• Experience with NLP or text-based machine learning, including areas such as text classification, named entity recognition (NER), or text matching.

• Proven experience managing the complete lifecycle of data-driven systems, from data collection and experimentation to deployment and monitoring.

• Ability to foresee data drift, leakage, and bias issues.

• Solid foundation in data analysis and SQL.

• Familiarity with backend services and APIs.

• Experience with non-relational or search databases, ideally Elasticsearch.

• Practical experience with a leading cloud service provider, preferably AWS.

• Competence in deploying models and data pipelines on a major cloud provider.

• Ability to clearly communicate modeling trade-offs to both Product and non-technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated history of converting ambiguous problems into comprehensive solutions.

• Capacity to identify delivery risks early and communicate them along with proposed mitigations.

• Previous experience in AML, KYC, or any regulated financial services sector is a plus.

• Experience in facilitating technical work across teams is advantageous.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools is a benefit.
