This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +8 more states.
• Design and spearhead the development of essential backend services, REST and GraphQL APIs, along with service-to-service integrations that connect CenterWell’s AI product suite.
• Establish frameworks for authentication, authorization, rate-limiting, PHI access control, and audit logging.
• Integrate HIPAA compliance into the design of the platform.
• Define and execute reusable AI integration patterns, encompassing LLM routing, streaming responses, tool orchestration, and model output management.
• Develop logging, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure scalable and debuggable operations.
• Participate in comprehensive product feature development using TypeScript and Next.js, covering everything from server-side APIs to rendered user interfaces.
• Lead architecture reviews and establish backend engineering standards.
• Engage in software engineering tasks across database, backend, and frontend layers.
• Provide support for platforms that serve care teams and patients within CenterWell clinics.
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend and platform engineering.
• High level of proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for API and service development.
• Proven experience in constructing scalable, production-quality REST or GraphQL APIs.
• Comprehensive understanding of authentication (OAuth2, OIDC), API security patterns, and authorization model design.
• Familiarity with HIPAA requirements, especially concerning secure transmission, storage, and access control for PHI.
• Proficient in Next.js and React, adequate for full-stack feature contributions.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex backend systems from architecture to production operations.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and LLM coding harnesses such as Claude Code, Pi Agent, Cursor, or Codex.
• Experience in healthcare, financial services, or other highly regulated sectors.
• Exposure to event-driven architecture, microservices, or API gateway patterns at scale.
• Knowledge of AI/LLM integration patterns, including streaming APIs and tool orchestration.
• Experience in a greenfield environment or a team-building engineering setting.
• Must reside near one of the specified IT locations: NYC, NY; Louisville, KY; Tampa, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Dallas/Frisco, TX; Boston, MA; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Chicago, IL; or Charlotte, NC.
• Home internet must offer a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
