
Senior Actuary, Predictive Modeling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the creation of price elasticity curves to predict how rating modifications affect policyholder retention and conversion, while evaluating their influence on customer lifetime value.
• Take responsibility for forecasting policyholder retention and conversion across the portfolio, considering pricing, operational changes, and business initiatives.
• Propel advancements in the sophistication of risk segmentation within our rating plans by developing GLM-based rating factors (using R or Python) and advocating for advanced predictive modeling techniques.
• Design and manage the tools that track the performance of our current rating plans and rate levels over time, including metrics such as loss ratio, conversion rate, churn, and lifetime value.
• Develop advanced SQL procedures to extract data from large, detailed veterinary bill databases, and establish best practices for the team’s data and modeling processes.
• Evaluate and inform leadership on the effects of coverage and product modifications on pricing.
• Oversee the analysis of product design proposals to assess pricing feasibility, impact on enterprise risk, competitive positioning, and customer value.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of competitor filings to gauge how our products and pricing compare with the market.
• Lead rate filing and rate indication initiatives, which include formulating filings and addressing regulatory objections.
• Collaborate with and influence product, underwriting, marketing, BI, and IT teams, translating complex actuarial concepts for those without an actuarial background.
• Innovate unique strategies for pricing new coverage concepts and ideas.
• FCAS designation is required (or career ACAS).
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in an actuarial or data science role within P&C and/or Health insurance.
• At least 4 years of experience in an actuarial ratemaking and/or pricing modeling position.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL is necessary.
• Strong expertise in R and/or Python is required.
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel is essential.
• Advanced understanding of generalized linear models (GLMs) is needed.
• Intermediate familiarity with elastic net GLMs, k-means clustering, and geospatial statistics is desirable.
• The capability to review and assess data for quality, completeness, and reasonableness is mandatory.
• Experience conducting competitor filing research in SERFF is advantageous.
• Comfort with or willingness to learn to use AI-assisted coding tools, such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Gemini.
• Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills; a strong team player who can apply innovative ideas and critical thinking.
