This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• The Standard is in search of a skilled Actuary to become part of our Employee Benefits (EB) division, focusing on products like disability, group life and AD&D, dental, and vision.
• In this position, you will play a key role in shaping product strategy and outcomes, collaborating closely with senior leadership across actuarial and various business teams.
• Your responsibilities will encompass the preparation of financial statements, analysis of business performance, and presentation of insights to business units and executive leadership.
• You will advocate for the actuarial viewpoint, pinpoint essential drivers and trends, and contribute to the enhancement of processes and tools with a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.
• A meticulous attention to detail and the capability to review and question work are vital for guaranteeing precise, insightful analysis and effective communication with executives.
• Bachelor’s degree
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) is mandatory; progress toward Fellowship or FSA is highly preferred.
• 5–7 years of increasingly responsible actuarial experience within the insurance sector, showcasing strong actuarial and business judgment; experience in employee benefits is preferred.
• Prior hands-on experience that has provided a well-rounded actuarial business perspective.
• Proficiency in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements in accordance with GAAP, statutory, and/or tax reporting standards.
• Established ability to collaborate with actuarial and business leaders to evaluate profitability, trends, and risk factors across complex products.
• Proven experience in reviewing, challenging, and validating actuarial analyses to ensure high quality and sound conclusions.
• Practical experience in developing analytical tools and models using programming languages (SAS preferred, or similar experience with Python, C++, Power BI).
• Strong financial, analytical, and conceptual abilities, including the assessment of economic, market, and competitor data.
• Advanced skills in Excel, including VBA and macro development.
• Familiarity with regulatory considerations affecting actuarial and financial reporting.
