This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Act as the immediate clinical escalation contact for suicidal expressions, self-injury, and mental health emergencies.
• Perform risk evaluations and develop safety plans in collaboration with students and their families.
• Liaise with Texas DFPS and emergency services, such as 911 or 988, when necessary.
• Manage ongoing support strategies following an incident, crisis, or DFPS report, which includes regular check-ins, necessary accommodations, and coordination with guides and families.
• Deliver brief, solution-oriented counseling and refer students to local providers for continued therapy.
• Monitor attendance, disengagement, and troubling work patterns to detect issues early on.
• Educate guides to identify warning signals, respond to disclosures, and comply with mandated reporting standards.
• Keep confidential clinical and support records strictly on a need-to-know basis.
• Establish student wellness initiatives as the academy's first dedicated mental health professional.
• Valid, independent Texas clinical license: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or licensed psychologist; associate and provisional licenses do not fulfill the requirement.
• Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology.
• A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with children and adolescents.
• Proven experience in assessing suicide risk, formulating safety plans, and handling active crises.
• Capability to perform crisis interventions remotely, including via video communication.
• Understanding of the circumstances that necessitate contacting Texas DFPS, 911, or 988 during crises.
• Skill in building trust with students through virtual platforms while remaining proactive, visible, and approachable.
• Proficiency in trauma-informed and strengths-based practices.
• Telehealth experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in school-based mental health, bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, and expertise in student-athlete mental health are additional advantages.
