School Counseling Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Operating remotely within the state of Florida, the Manager of School Counseling will collaborate with the school’s leadership team to support students, ensuring each child successfully completes their instructional program.

• Provide guidance to staff and assist students and parents in comprehending and fulfilling graduation requirements, course selection and scheduling, post-secondary school planning, and crisis intervention.

• Guarantee the academic success of individual students by leveraging all levels of academic support available and maintaining high levels of communication with parents to convey program information and address individual student needs.

• Lead, supervise, and support a team of school counselors across K-12 grade levels, offering regular coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations to promote professional growth and adherence to school counseling standards.

• Offer specific assistance to families requiring additional support to avert unnecessary withdrawals and promote high levels of participation.

• Address any student issues escalated by parents and teachers.

• Design, plan, and implement counseling programs for students and families pertaining to academic and career planning and graduation.

• Oversee and maintain the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student.

• Stay informed about all high school graduation requirements, including special criteria such as community service, and relay this information to the principal and school leader.

• Organize and supervise the secondary school course selection process in accordance with specific state credit and graduation requirements as well as student needs and interests.

• Counsel students facing challenges related to dropping courses and modifying schedules.

• Supervise the review of student transcripts and the entry of credits into the online transcript system.

• Develop and implement procedures to ensure transcripts are accurate and current.

• Guide families through the school withdrawal process, assisting with data collection related to withdrawals.

• Create, plan, and implement counseling programs addressing interpersonal adjustment issues for students and families.

• Design and execute crisis prevention and management plans for the school and lead the School-Based Threat Management Team.

• Report and refer critical incidents that threaten student well-being as required by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.

• Guide school teams in identifying school and community resources and maintain an updated list of these resources, providing access to school teams and families.

• Establish and implement processes to routinely review the status of each secondary school student concerning attendance, participation, and performance.

• Ensure that counseling staff can assist teachers when students enroll mid-semester, ensuring teachers receive guidance on integrating these students into their coursework while appropriately managing previous grades, credits, and evaluations.

• Research, develop, and implement special programs such as Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT preparation, dual enrollment, and college entrance preparation.

• Coordinate a team of staff to identify students who are at risk or in crisis.

• Provide state testing support, including logistics for scheduling, tracking participation, and contracting testing facilities.

• Perform all other assigned duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in school counseling and management/leadership.

• Florida Professional Teacher Certification in School Counseling.

• ESOL Endorsement or Certification is preferred.

• Strong understanding of Florida graduation requirements and the school accountability framework.

• Proficiency in technology (especially with Microsoft Office and Google products).

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• A customer-focused approach.

• High degree of flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced virtual environment.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.

• Travel across the state is necessary for state testing administration, which may include overnight travel.

• Ability to work with and manage a remote team.

• Willingness to work occasional evening hours as needed to support students and families.

• Must be able to utilize a personal electronic device and email address for two-step authentication.
