Risk Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary leader for insurance and risk management within the company.

• Create, implement, and oversee insurance, risk management, and loss mitigation programs across a national portfolio of solar and energy storage assets in both operational and construction stages.

• Lead annual negotiations with brokers and manage insurance renewals.

• Formulate and execute strategies for insurance placement.

• Cultivate relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, consultants, and third-party advisors.

• Assess and recommend coverages including property, casualty, environmental, cyber, D&O, pollution, builders risk, and other specialized insurance needs.

• Review coverage terms, exclusions, endorsements, and policy language.

• Compare coverage and cost structures against industry benchmarks.

• Maintain insurance schedules and provide portfolio-level coverage reporting.

• Serve as the main contact for insurance claims.

• Oversee claim submissions, investigations, documentation, and settlement negotiations.

• Collaborate with operations teams to quantify losses and optimize recovery opportunities.

• Develop initiatives for lessons learned and loss prevention.

• Manage surety bond programs and financial assurance obligations.

• Administer letters of credit, including issuance, renewals, amendments, releases, and collateral oversight.

• Assess alternative credit support solutions.

• Ensure compliance with project-specific security protocols.

• Guarantee adherence to insurance requirements in project financing, tax equity, and credit agreements.

• Coordinate insurance reporting for lenders and investors.

• Maintain records proving compliance with lender and investor obligations.

• Monitor portfolio exposure to weather, natural catastrophes, operational, regulatory, cyber, and market risks.

• Facilitate catastrophe modeling and analyses of insured values.

• Create risk dashboards and executive reporting metrics.

• Organize periodic risk assessments with business leaders.

• Identify emerging risks and propose mitigation strategies.

• Report directly to the Vice President of Asset Management.

• Collaborate with internal departments, brokers, lenders, tax equity investors, insurers, and other external parties.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Insurance, Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of experience in insurance, risk management, renewable energy, infrastructure, power generation, or similar industries.

• Proven experience in managing complex insurance programs and claims.

• Strong grasp of property and casualty insurance concepts and policy frameworks.

• Experience collaborating with brokers, carriers, lenders, and legal teams.

• Excellent analytical, financial, and negotiation abilities.

• Preferred experience in renewable energy, solar, battery storage, infrastructure, or power generation sectors.

• ARM, CPCU, CRM, RIMS-CRMP, or a similar professional designation is preferred.

• Experience in supporting tax equity and project finance transactions is preferred.

• Familiarity with catastrophe modeling and risk analytics platforms is preferred.

• Strategic thinking capabilities and robust business acumen.

• Ability to balance risk mitigation with commercial objectives.

• Strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills.

• Superior project management and organizational skills.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to present risk recommendations to senior leadership, lenders, investors, and boards.
