Risk Engineering Technical Property Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Serve as a strategic risk advisor for Inland Marine clients.

• Recognize emerging risks and collaboratively develop effective risk mitigation strategies.

• Customize recommendations based on clients’ industries, risk profiles, and business objectives.

• Perform property risk evaluations and consultations across construction projects for all business sectors.

• Implement Property Line of Business Risk Engineering practices, providing support for Marine and International Multinational Lines when relevant.

• Create and execute data-driven service plans aimed at addressing loss drivers, operational risks, and client goals.

• Convert technical findings into actionable insights for clients, agents, and underwriting partners.

• Utilize dashboards, virtual tools, analytics, and AI-driven insights to improve service quality and enhance customer experience.

• Collaborate effectively with underwriting, claims, sales, data, and technical specialists.

• Identify opportunities to broaden Risk Services offerings and foster profitable growth.

• Engage in discussions, meetings, training, and webinars hosted by industry associations.

• Mentor, guide, and assist less seasoned risk engineering consultants as appropriate based on role level.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in property risk engineering, Highly Protected Risk (HPR), loss control, or similar consulting positions.

• A Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Fire Protection, Engineering/Technology, or a related technical field is strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong capability to assess risk, analyze loss data, identify trends, and create targeted mitigation strategies.

• Proficient in using digital tools, analytics, and technology-enabled platforms.

• Demonstrated customer-centric approach.

• Proven ability to provide proactive consultation and influence the adoption of recommendations.

• Excellent storytelling skills with data.

• Advanced written and verbal communication abilities.

• Competence in preparing technical reports and delivering client-facing presentations.

• Capability to collaborate across underwriting, claims, sales, agents, brokers, and technical partners.

• Digital fluency and eagerness to learn and adopt new tools, platforms, and AI-enabled capabilities.

• Strong dedication to continuous learning.

• Extensive knowledge of NFPA Standards, FM Global Data Sheets, and other industry standards is preferred.

• Professional safety or risk management certifications; Professional Engineer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, or Mechanical Engineer preferred or required based on role and level.

• A valid driver's license is mandatory.
