This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee, document, and address press freedom violations across the Europe and Central Asia region, with a particular emphasis on Western and Northern Europe.

• Cultivate and strengthen relationships with journalists, human rights organizations, policymakers, and various regional stakeholders.

• Suggest, lead, and conduct research related to press freedom challenges in the region.

• Formulate and implement advocacy strategies to promote press freedom in Europe and Central Asia.

• Initiate and compose reports, advocacy materials, engaging social media content, and other resources concerning regional press freedom matters.

• Evaluate and respond to journalist assistance requests in collaboration with the Emergencies team.

• Represent CPJ at conferences and meetings with authorities, journalists, partners, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

• Work in partnership with CPJ’s global Advocacy, Research, and Assistance teams.

• Translate interviews, documents, and other materials from English to relevant local languages as necessary.

• Undertake additional responsibilities within CPJ’s research and advocacy framework as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of experience in researching, reporting, and publishing on global human rights and political issues, or equivalent experience in advocacy and humanitarian aid.

• Solid understanding of issues pertaining to Europe and Central Asia, particularly in the context of media and human rights.

• Exceptional English writing and reporting capabilities.

• Proficiency in at least one additional language relevant to the role.

• Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time management abilities.

• Capacity to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

• Extensive experience collaborating with governments and other policymakers.

• Knowledge and skills in effectively utilizing social media tools.

• Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Drive, along with a basic understanding of its tools and functionalities.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

• Strong dedication to press freedom.

• Capacity to work autonomously with limited supervision.

• Familiarity with additional regional languages is a plus.

• Strong network of regional contacts.

• Expertise in online/digital harms.

• Experience in policy development.

• Background in multimedia and data journalism.

• Experience in supporting trauma-related cases or journalist assistance.

• Must be located in the Europe/Central Asia region and employed through an Employer of Record.

• Availability to work and participate in meetings according to the US Eastern time zone as necessary.
