Release Engineer – Data Plane Internal Tooling, Productivity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore.

📋 Description

• Strategically plan and implement rolling upgrades across numerous ClickHouse clusters, ensuring safety, accuracy, and minimal disruption to customers.

• Take full ownership of the release pipeline, encompassing pre-upgrade validation, staged rollouts, and post-upgrade monitoring and incident management.

• Diagnose and resolve production issues during a regular on-call rotation, including handling snowflake clusters and automation edge cases.

• Develop and enhance internal tools and automation to support reliable and repeatable large-scale database operations.

• Collaborate with core database and cloud infrastructure teams to recognize and address operational challenges.

• Provide support and training to engineering teams utilizing internal tools.

• Coordinate and manage upgrades, ensuring the health of tens of thousands of clusters in a production environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience operating stateful distributed systems in production, such as databases, message queues, or storage systems.

• Practical experience in conducting upgrades or maintenance operations on live production data stores at scale.

• Strong debugging skills in production environments and the ability to investigate unfamiliar systems under pressure.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes.

• Software development experience in Go, or substantial experience in another programming language along with a genuine eagerness to learn Go.

• Previous experience with ClickHouse is preferred.
