Relay Engineering Specialist II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Serve as Lead Engineer on moderately complex studies and project settings.

• Collaborate with clients, other engineering firms, and internal departments.

• Determine input requirements for studies/settings and coordinate the collection of necessary information and data.

• Develop initial design concepts for significant project phases or assume overall engineering responsibility for routine projects.

• Prepare and validate calculations utilizing engineering principles, skills, or application-specific software.

• Oversee personal task assignments within defined scope, schedule, and budget.

• Track project milestones and timelines.

• Conduct technical and coordination reviews of deliverables and project or study documents.

• Ensure that deliverables adhere to procedures and applicable design standards.

• Create reports that document the processes and outcomes of studies or settings.

• Assist clients in meeting compliance requirements.

• Mentor junior associates.

• Take responsibility for the technical adequacy of deliverables.

• Lead studies and ensure that assignments are completed on time and within budget.

• Design relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays for transmission and distribution assets.

• Conduct protective device coordination for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors.

• Formulate logic settings for relay schemes.

• Execute area protective device coordination studies.

• Develop models of system components.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.

• 5 years of experience working with both internal and external clients.

• At least 6 years of Utility/Substation Experience with a strong preference for a focus on Settings and/or Studies.

• Proficiency in PSCAD, MathCAD, SKM CAPE, ASPEN, acSELerator (SEL-5030), ETAP, and Siemens PSS E is preferred.

• Experience with CAD is preferred.

• Strong advanced calculation skills.

• Advanced skills in electrical schematics.

• Advanced skills in electrical systems.

• Strong collaboration skills.

• PMP or PE certification is preferred.
