Regulatory Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Provide counsel on a range of regulatory matters, including product offerings, licensing, marketing limitations, compliance, AML/CTF, and other critical issues essential for Binance's expansion in various African regions (such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya) and worldwide.

• Draft and assess strategic plans and submissions for regulatory bodies; address regulatory inquiries and assist in shaping the long-term regulatory framework.

• Offer support to product and marketing teams regarding the scope of product offerings and marketing initiatives across multiple African jurisdictions.

• Collaborate with local teams to design and implement legal and compliance programs, along with ongoing regulatory strategies throughout Africa.

• Keep abreast of relevant legal and regulatory advancements to deliver strategic counsel and encourage compliance.

• Create leadership summaries, proposals, reports, and regulatory insights on forthcoming legislation.

• Cultivate relationships with external law firms and pertinent stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be admitted to practice in South Africa or a common law jurisdiction.

• Over 8 years of post-qualification experience acquired at leading law firms and/or financial institutions.

• Experience in advising financial institutions and other enterprises (including banks, investment managers, and payment platforms) on regulatory issues.

• Strong research, analytical, and document drafting capabilities.

• A self-driven, collaborative lawyer who is comfortable operating in a dynamic environment; takes full responsibility for cases, provides practical advice, and makes informed, risk-based decisions.

• The position is mainly non-contentious; candidates with a contentious background are encouraged to apply.

• Exceptional written and spoken English skills.

• Familiarity with AI tools is advantageous.
