Regional Underwriting Manager – East Coast

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver personalized coaching, mentoring, and training for Underwriters on expectations, processes, guidelines, and system operations (Encompass), while escalating questions for clarification when necessary.

• Act as the main contact for Underwriters regarding inquiries, clarification, and guidance.

• Ensure Underwriters comprehend, implement, and enhance their understanding of guidelines, processes, and procedures at CCM.

• Conduct CTC reviews until Underwriters obtain lending authority.

• Daily review of the CR Lending Authority, ACES, Denial, Suspense, Failed, and 2nd Tier Review Pipeline reports.

• Provide weekly findings, training, and coaching issues to the VP.

• Perform a minimum of 2 spot reviews weekly on files that are not assessed by other departments/teams (e.g., QC, CRUM, etc.).

• Support the evaluation of reports and findings related to Underwriter quality as required.

• Oversee the pipeline to ensure loans across all areas meet SLA, and that all loans assigned to external Underwriter status are processed within 24 hours (or 72 hours for branch rebuttals).

• Communicate load balancing, designated underwriting assignments, and priority reviews (VIP, Transition, etc.) to the Production Coordinators.

• Assist with loan-level production (underwriting, clearing conditions) based on staffing and volume demands.

• Review and finalize non-health/safety escrow holdbacks.

• Evaluate loan scenarios as necessary.

• Analyze post-closing/credit risk findings to identify and determine training requirements.

• Conduct welcome calls for new branches and follow-up calls for existing branches as needed (daily, weekly, monthly).

• Report Underwriter final bonus figures and communicate these to the VP.

• Interview candidates for Underwriter positions.

• Review and approve timecards and PTO requests.

• Attend weekly meetings with the VP and monthly national underwriting department calls led by the SVP of Underwriting; facilitate bi-weekly team meetings with direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• DE, SAR, and LAPP certifications are mandatory; experience with USDA is advantageous.

• Over 5 years of Mortgage Underwriting experience (FHA, VA, and Conventional) with knowledge of agency guidelines.

• More than 5 years of supervisory experience in underwriting.

• Experience with Encompass LOS is required.

• Familiarity with ATR/QM requirements.

• Understanding of compliance and disclosure requirements.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
