Referral Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Assist with referrals ordered by Banner.

• Organize referral orders to ensure continuity of treatment, including specialty services and diagnostic testing.

• Arrange appointments with specialty physicians and schedule diagnostic tests as requested by providers.

• Engage with patients to discuss scheduling requirements.

• Act as a liaison among patients, providers, and staff for referral and follow-up necessities.

• Provide education to patients and families, and assist with external resources when necessary.

• Confirm insurance coverage, secure authorization, and communicate with receiving facilities.

• Supply clinical information for payer authorization and for facilities or specialists.

• Monitor and manage referrals at 30/60/90-day intervals.

• Follow up with patients who miss their appointments.

• Keep current on medical terminology, insurance requirements, and payer regulations.

• Collaborate with external referral sources and community resources.

• Maintain an updated list of community resources and develop additional referral sources.

• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and third-party payers.

• Prioritize tasks within established guidelines with moderate supervision.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent practical knowledge.

• At least 1 year of direct patient interaction/experience in a medical, insurance, or healthcare-related field.

• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations.

• Strong customer service orientation and a readiness to solve problems.

• Effective skills in verbal and written communication.

• Capability to handle competing priorities.

• Proficiency in commonly used office software applications.

• Previous knowledge of managed care concepts is preferred.

• Familiarity with medical terminology and ICD-9 and CPT codes is preferred.

• Additional relevant education and/or experience is preferred.
