Purchasing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Identify, assess, and choose suppliers based on factors such as cost, quality, delivery performance, and lifecycle considerations.

• Collaborate with Engineering during New Product Introduction (NPI) to pinpoint and onboard suppliers early, aiding in component selection and design-for-supply-chain decisions.

• Analyze BOMs, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure precise sourcing and identify supply risks (e.g., lead times, obsolescence, single-source components).

• Lead Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and negotiate pricing, lead times, and commercial terms that align with product and lifecycle requirements.

• Acquire materials for prototype builds, validation, and early production, guaranteeing timely delivery to meet project milestones.

• Oversee supplier performance and address issues related to quality, delivery, and non-conformances, including implementing corrective actions.

• Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in pricing, lead times, and terms.

• Partner with Planning to assist with forecasts, production needs, and inventory risk management during product launches.

• Facilitate engineering changes, supplier transitions, and lifecycle planning, including strategies to mitigate component obsolescence.

• Contribute to the continuous enhancement of procurement processes and supplier performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in purchasing or supply chain within a manufacturing context.

• Completed post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline.

• Experience in supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, particularly in sourcing electronic or technical components.

• Ability to interpret BOMs, drawings, and technical specifications to support engineering and manufacturing needs.

• Knowledge of electronic components, supply constraints, lifecycle risks, and challenges related to suppliers.

• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to evaluate supplier proposals and provide recommendations.

• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level, including data analysis and efficient organization of information.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
