Project Manager, State and Local Government

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee the planning and implementation of a five-year, multi-cohort statewide initiative for local governments in New York.

• Manage the lifecycle of annual cohorts from recruitment and onboarding to implementation, reporting, and final closeout.

• Act as the primary project manager and daily point of contact for NYSERDA.

• Ensure adherence to contract requirements, timely milestone achievements, budget management, reporting, risk management, and fulfilling contractual obligations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, including subject matter experts, subcontractors, regional organizations, universities, USGBC Chapters, and local governments.

• Design and supervise the cohort curriculum, technical assistance, orientations, workshops, learning sessions, implementation guides, playbooks, and educational resources.

• Offer strategic direction and technical assistance to local governments through workshops, office hours, peer learning, and personalized coaching.

• Create project plans, schedules, budgets, risk logs, performance metrics, documentation, and process enhancements.

• Lead stakeholder engagement and manage external communications at meetings, conferences, webinars, and public events.

• Facilitate the sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and resources for market transformation.

• Supervise program staff, fellows, interns, and consultants.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible project management experience in complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.

• Experience managing large-scale public sector programs related to sustainability, climate, clean energy, environmental policy, or technical assistance.

• Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, external partners, and government stakeholders.

• Demonstrated experience handling project schedules, budgets, reporting, governance, and contractual commitments.

• Experience collaborating with state or local governments is strongly preferred.

• A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Sustainability, Environmental Policy, Project Management, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field.

• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be taken into account.

• Proficiency in project management tools such as Smartsheet, SharePoint, and resource management platforms.

• Comfort with managing virtual meetings, shared workspaces, and collaborative platforms.

• Exceptional project management, organizational, and time-management skills.

• Strong abilities in stakeholder management and communication.

• Capable of translating complex technical concepts into accessible information for diverse audiences.

• Skilled in anticipating challenges and proactively addressing issues.

• High attention to detail with strong writing and facilitation skills.

• Customer-oriented, collaborative, and dedicated to delivering quality work.

• Experience in facilitating workshops or training sessions.

• Familiarity with decarbonization, clean energy, or building performance topics is advantageous.

• Familiarity with LEED and LEED for Cities certification frameworks is preferred.

• PMP, LEED GA, or LEED AP certifications preferred; candidates in progress will be considered.

• Availability to work Monday–Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM ET.

• Occasional travel within New York State is required.
