
Project Engineer – Distributed Energy Resources

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist in the creation, design, and execution of distributed energy resource (DER) projects, particularly emphasizing solar PV, battery energy storage, and microgrids.
• Conduct on-site evaluations at customer locations to collect project data, assess current conditions, and facilitate technical assessments.
• Carry out engineering analyses to produce initial system configurations, project energy output estimations, and generate conceptual cost projections.
• Aid in the development of both conceptual and detailed engineering design documentation, which encompasses scopes of work, schematics, narratives, and technical specifications.
• Create requests for proposals and assist in evaluating third-party engineering firms across electrical, civil, and geotechnical sectors.
• Contribute to the assessment of subcontractor bids and equipment vendor proposals to identify optimal selections based on performance, cost, feasibility, and warranty factors.
• Develop technical content for project proposals, reports, and presentations, effectively communicating project status, significant challenges, and suggested resolutions.
• Assist in managing project modifications and technical interventions to promote successful project results.
• Provide engineering assistance throughout all project phases, including proposal development, design, construction, commissioning, and operational stages.
• Collaborate with Ameresco teams to formulate project commissioning strategies and ensure successful system initiation and transition.
• Identify potential energy efficiency enhancements at customer sites and ensure project scopes are aligned with guaranteed energy and performance goals.
• Ensure that designs and project recommendations fulfill customer requirements and adhere to relevant codes, standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
• Establish and sustain strong professional relationships with colleagues, customers, subcontractors, and external collaborators.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to facilitate customer communications, project coordination, status updates, and resolution of design and construction issues.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to uphold quality control and ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in line with customer expectations.
• Travel as necessary.
• Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from a recognized four-year college or university.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering, project development, or similar technical position.
• Capability to review confidential U.S. security information.
• Experience with projects involving solar PV, battery energy storage systems, cogeneration, microgrids, and power systems.
• Familiarity with whole-building energy modeling and/or solar PV modeling software.
• Experience in supporting the construction phase of project development.
• Solid understanding of engineering principles related to various energy technologies such as boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, building automation systems, building envelope systems, and water/steam distribution systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), or progress toward obtaining PE licensure.
• Valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence and in good standing.
